My latest passion

I probably can never say what my exact interest is. I have lots of them, as everybody do, but the way i see it, people can somehow pick the most of it, and say two or three specific subject of their interests. I just can't.

Well, if i can't be specific, so let's get general, I LOVE MACHINES... mean MACHINES!!!

Huge flying metal-composite monster, sleek land speeder, behemoth ocean conqueror, precise rail travelers, anything that moves and just cool. I reserve my most interest to airplanes because it is simply being cooler by working harmoniously with principles of science, the way nature flows. Their designs are never meant for the looks, its for the use, yet it looks so damn good.

Many years before i can occupy myself with this expensive and rare hobby, i was stuck with automotive world. It is the same killer-looking everyday machinery that you'd probably use at least once in your life time. I like the way they designed the headlights. That killer 'stare' of every car on the street usually came from the design of its front grill and headlights. The more aerodynamic they are, the cooler it looks. However, i found out that it is just a 'mere' design for the style, little functionality, because it does not affect the overall performance of the car or does it concern its users.

In 1998 automotive industry survey, the number one criteria of customer buying decision process in my country is simply "the style" or just "the looks" It ranks number one with 34% of the respondents choosing it over other criteria such as fuel efficiency, engine performance, after sales service, price, brands, etc. It is interpreted as: "If the car does not look good, i would never bother purchasing it or even put it into my consideration." The style is also one of the hit trends in car design, aerodynamic and functionality aside, style is more important, you can't just have a car with tacky look, and then hope with whatever marketing you spend on it can make a decent sales.

But this is airplane... come on, who cares for the looks? It is designed to carry people, just like buses, it flies, nobody can see it flying that high. Yet when on ground it amazes everyone. The latest creation, the Airbus A380 looks awful, with that big huge blunt nose. Now, who cares, really? Everybody just wanted to have a taste flying in this super jumbo for the first time, they even auctioned the tickets. So, it is in the end, "the most beautiful design." Because beautiful is not just about the looks.

The "Awareness" in Western Business

Do you ever heard any stories about The Bodyshop? Lush Cosmetics? And others having similar business backgrounds?

They are now present in most of the fanciest mall in town. Having like supporting bloody consumerism, they overpriced their products(not so in industrialised countries). The reason behind this was to subject of many issues, which is becoming one of the most popular subject of discussion today: environmental concerns, humanity, peace, and diversity co-existence.

These are western people's fanciest, cutest, self-assuring lifestyle today. Being previously xenophobic and racist, they now accept everything with open hands that eventually destroys their own identity. They know they have to do this to redeem their image in the past (some went other way to the denial), which is unnecessary, just apologise and show the real thing like Australians did are more than enough. Australians live closer to Asia, they know what it is like, and they did it right.

Like all western-cultured people, Australian is prideful, straight-forward, non-nonsense, and mind their own business (with the exception of being laid back). Until the fanciful thoughts which crams every Asians (geographically) and Africans come to shape: the so-called "aware" and "thoughtful" mind.

The typical scenario is like this:

It started like when a random ordinary western country resident, jobless, but living in a house with garage. His/her partner has a decent income, so they could afford living more than enough (with standard of living already higher than most of the countries in the world). He/she has a talent or just an interest in things. They started to make it a business. They begin from the internet, and thus exposed to the latest issues like global warming, genocide, child labour, armed conflict, and so on.

Thus they want to market the business better, they use it! Things like "we are aware of this" and "so we are doing this for their good". This is proven to be very successful in getting into the mind of the fancy and cute western society. Soon, the business gets its foundation and support, an army of people who claimed themselves to be humanists and environmentalists. Their aim is an old one: making the world a better living place... resounding Michael Jackson's "Heal The World".

While it is true that many big corporates they suspected are crooks and most of governments are bunch of corrupt assholes, they are not exactly smart enough to figure out the best way in dealing with the problem. That is the common basic problem: lack of intelligence. We can safely say, people who can be misguided by the act of this "so-called socially-aware business" are generally imbeciles. So why not let the government do their job? They are on the post with multiple serious problems... not just dealing with ego-maniac sick individuals with lousy attitude.

On their blogs, street marches, public demonstrations, and so on, they expressed their view of how to help the world in its current state of in the brink of destruction (with the support of business such as Lush and Bodyshop of course). They targeted oil companies, and here is the funnies part.

Any environmentalists that are American and other idiots regardless of their nationality, but is generally not from UK or maybe Europe, usually targeted BP for their campaign. Citing for its crimes when seizing oil fields in Nigeria, pollution they generated by doing their business, and so on. The most important thing is: BP, the company they targeted. It is the current world's largest solar panel manufacturer, the current cheapest (not as cheap as wind energy) and practically cleanest energy generator (with some reliability problems). Seems like this non-UK or European environmentalist forget about ExxonMobil or Chevron. These two dirty bastards are notorious in most of the lesser known countries for their abuse of its host country's lax system. From claiming their own territory in a sovereign land, to bribing officials in waste disposal matters. They are not less destructive than they might seem, with Chevron being the world's largest Geothermal energy producer, a cheap (somehow), not necessarily clean (Sulfuric gases, produced by volcanic activity needed by Geothermal station are harmful and hazardous, but it is natural), and renewable energy (to some extent). Conversely, the other environmentalist target the other party. Shell is no exception. It is the matter of ignorance.

Another issue (to only become a major issue in UK and some European countries) is with planes. Despite the fact that the whole air transport industry only contributes for roughly about 1% of total Carbon emissions and less than 5% of Nitrogen Oxides pollution. Well, regardless, who cares about what idiots are saying?

However, the most disgusting part is about its global social awareness. Often targeted for idiots, typical of the cute and fancy western society reading tampered news and checking out other people. Third world country people, who often regarded as poor, mistreated, and abused are becoming the subject. That's racist. An intolerant and ignorant profiling of what we are.

Just like racists in Amnesty International, what they do is hammering on PRC's human rights issue... well just because PRC is a relatively new country and with so many citizens which they can hardly control, maybe they need some tougher actions on their poor citizens. Yes some of them are abused, but it is the problem in most of developing countries: some people cannot just contribute for the greater good, and it is either them or the rest of the country who has to suffer. They don't want PRC to advance, they think western way is the best... well sure it might works in Asian society, just see. They know everything's best, and forcing other people to accept their way.

Well, they are selling stuffs that is regarded as "fair-trade" goods. What is "fair-trade"? They sell "fair-trade" coffee in my campus, but the price is the same with the other coffee shops? I once lived near a coffee plantation in my country back then. There were no difference. This "so-called globally-aware" western-urban society is trying to self-assure themselves that they are doing things right for my ex-neighbour farmers. Well, they don't. Cut the hypocrites and stop the racial profiling. If our coffee is shitty as ass, don't bother buying it. I'll drink it, it keeps me awake... not fanciful Starbucks pussy lattes. Just be a rational person, it is not much to ask isn't it? Don't buy our stuff, we don't take a pity, it is fair competition alright.

I don't get it with all of this something called "embracing diversity" and all the nonsense it entails.

What you need to be right is just be what you be... don't make your company or your country a sha-la-la multi-racial neverland with useless pussy music running through the room. That's disgusting. I call it "engineering diversity", and it is enough! There have to be an end to this felony.

We have to move on to "respect". That is, to respect other people regardless of their backgrounds. I mean, put out all of his/her racial stereotypes and evaluate the person on a rational basis. Therefore it is okay to have all whites to work in the company, or all Asians, or all Africans, or all Indians, or all Arabs, whatsoever as long as they go through fair selection process. This rational condition won't exist, because like the internet fratire Maddox says: "People think diversity came from a group of people who look different". Yeah it is the "looks" that makes you judge whether a person is Asian, Indians, Arabs, Africans, or Caucasians. There comes your diversity.

All the bullshit aside, "globally-aware" business is nothing but a company with overrated marketing campaign successfully gaining idiots' attention.

Make my day

Just last Thursday, i went to campus, asking for a survey permission letter, and everything went awry.

I asked for 3 different letters, and it was all alright, the student service staffs, which usually are very uncooperative were very kind that day. But then again, when i decided about things to add up. I forgot something, so i called home, my mom asked me for shopping some discounted meat at Food Hall Senayan City. So i did my thing first before went shopping to Senayan City Mall next to my campus.

Here is the frustrating event:
I entered the library, just like a thousand times before. Checked the internet using the stand by computer near the librarian desk. After 3 years studying there, i knew very well about what to do and what not to do. I planned to just browse for less than a minute. Moreover, it was pretty quiet that day and nobody was around.

Considering i did not bring any pen or any other writing tools, i decided to browse the internet using the computer near to the desk, where there were pens. I plan to open the website, grab the nearby pen, note down the company's address... that's it. Not any minutes to be wasted. I click on the IE icon located in the taskbar, in a second, the window showed up, i typed the address and it showed up quite fast, and just before i see address, i was interrupted by a calling noise.

"Mas...mas...mas...mas... kalau mau pake internet... pake komputer yang disebelah sana! Yang didalam lab itu!" "Yang ini untuk nge-cek buku aja."

The new recruit librarian told me to move to the "CD-ROM checking room" to use the internet, because the stand by computers are meant to be used for book availability checking only. The problem is, he did not greet me in proper English (quite mandatory in our campus, although very often violated), yet nor any courtesy was shown into a "visiting customer" (although i already knew the proper procedure after 3 years of experience being there). But then again, i was in a good mood at that time.

"Oh yes!" I co-operated. Yes, i knew the rule, so i answered "OK, so lend me a pen, i need a pen, a pen!" I said in hurry. Frustrated, i asked them to lend a pen. "So then, lend me a pen, alright then!" Moreover, this is his first time, i don't want to argue about what "street smart" tips he needed to know before he started to work properly in this building. Everybody who has less than a 5 minute purpose with that computer, which has an internet access, and considering that person will not disturb other person around, than the use of that computer is quite legitimate.

Using the computer in CD-ROM checking room, requires us to start up the computer first (which was in power off condition when not used), wait for the shitty computers to boot up (Windows XP sp 2 on a Celeron/AMD K6 machine), then login using my 3 year old account, wait for the Windows to start the applications, automated virus scanning using shitty un-updated Trend Micro scanners (which is often being breached by some random stupid virus), click on the IE icon (which took me about 20 clicks and 3 minutes before the slow machine bring the IE window up), wait another 30 seconds for the IE application to complete its start up, type in the address, and wait for the slow connection to show the website.

It took me about 15 minutes to finish my business there with the shitty machines. Despite all the bad things, i still had a good chit-chat with some of friends there while waiting for the website to show up and then note down the company's address.

Then i went shopping, crossing the streets, which is only about 40 feet wide and entered the building after a brief security check. All of the process, beginning at the entrance of Senayan City to the Food Hall supermarket cashier, took about 20 minutes. I picked necessary things and then went to the queue-less cashier process. I was quite happy, i paid only 80 cents for 1 ounces of Salmon meat, together with teriyaki sauce and a 12.5% discounted fried nori (Japanese seasoned sea weed) snack.

However, when i was about to step out from the building, i saw a heavy rain pouring down all over the area. It was a very very very heavy rain, which will eventually shut down any flight if it happened in an airport. "Shit!" i will never make it home in time. But, i have an idea, so i purchased a dozen of J.Co dough nuts (Krispy Kreme spun off). I flipped the huge plastic containers over the dough nut box, and use them as a cover when crossing the street. But first, i need to take some money from ATM first... oh no! Everything went so unplanned, so devastatingly ruined!

Despite all of that, i made the crossings, and i made it dry, but still with quite a lot of rain drops pouring into my shoes and my pants, because it was quite windy.

Back in car, i thought "what would happened if i went here by Transjakarta?" "wtf! There was something out of plan today! #^%:"<@ that new guy! €$@&$#* that new librarian!" I learned that the rain has just started about 2 minutes before i asked the security guy next to the exit door. So it was avoidable if the librarian guy cooperated.

Happen if that stupid new recruit did not ask me to move out, which i kindly responded to, i won't be going to such trouble. Yet there are reasons why do people in my freaking campus behave so officially snotty nowadays.

They never limit the number of student joining the tiny university, that is why the number has grown beyond control. Some scheduling screw-ups already happened, and it bothered much of the students. This added much to the desperation of the building management to keep their facilities in a good condition, including that stand by library computers. They are not solving the problem, instead making their customers paying for their stupid problems by forcing some of the old idiotic rules. Damn it! Since when do we, the 3rd generations and now the most seniors never knowing such things better than n00bs?

The n00bs will eventually pay for this someday, their salary is not that good and their working place is becoming more and more like hell. It is up to the management guys, if they cannot see wtf is wrong now, all of their efforts are useless, then expect the service quality to deteriorate and the quality of applicants to decrease. And we all know it is not good for a proclaimed "international" institution and such.

All that short cartoon needs

Mickey Mouse Works... Tom & Jerry 60's, 70's, and now era, and other short cartoons... what a shame!

Just look at old Disney classics, what is missing with today's Donald, Goofy, and other's short clips? And they even say that "low quality shows on TV?" Now who downgrades it all? With every shameful works to the great Disney's Technicolor classics they put on packed show "House of the Mouse", it is just like a big direct slap on Walt Disney's own face.

What a cartoon show must be is:

My all-time favorite cartoon clips. I have been watching this since i was 3 years old, and probably, still remain in my mind as the best cartoon ever.

It got decent classic touch: nice music, smooth animation (which most of modern cartoon lacks of), nice transition, and fresh humors... a bit of cartoon violence there, but it is still tolerable to some standards. It is all that cartoon shows should have!

I just want to describe that it is so limitless!

How cool is it, just go to youtube and search for combat aircraft video. Try search "red flag", "f-15", "su-27", etc.

The cooler it gets, the more balance with nature it becomes. None of these things get its coolness out of nothing like our fashion. But it is all about the law of nature and its blessings to us.

Now, time for a question to tickle your mind:

Which animals do airplanes resembles the most in terms of aerodynamic? Birds or Fishes?
